If you love flowers and gardens and are looking for beautiful Spring flowers in Southern California, I can highly recommend Descanso Gardens near Los Angeles. It’s a botanical garden full of beautiful flowers almost year-round, and is especially beautiful in the Spring with tulips, magnolias, camellias, irises, lilacs, daffodils and much more! This garden is perfect for flower lovers and photographers!
Last month, Ken and I went on a “Garden Tour of Southern California” road trip, to try to see as many Spring blooms as possible in Southern California. This trip also included a visit to The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch and the Virginia Robinson Gardens in Beverly Hills, all of which are fabulous!
Descanso Gardens is located about 20 minutes north downtown Los Angeles, in the city of La Cañada Flintridge. Since Ken and I are members of the UC Botanical Garden in Berkeley, we have free reciprocal admissions to this garden through the American Horticultural Society’s Reciprocal Admissions Program and took advantage by visiting twice during our stay.
We were delighted by all the flowers in bloom here, including lots of tulips, cherry blossoms and some magnolias in their charming Japanese Garden. March is definitely a wonderful time to visit this garden! I especially enjoyed their Japanese Garden with the arched bridge and the koi-filled stream next to the tea house, all accented by pink blooming cherry and plum blossoms.
