I recently learned about a “Magic Purple Carpet” of flowers that spring up every year along the coast of Pacific Grove in the Monterey Peninsula starting in April. Since I love the California coast and I love flowers, I had to go see for myself. What I saw was every bit as beautiful and magical as I envisioned it to be. Pacific Grove’s breath-taking coastline with its rocky cliffs were blanketed by the purple ice plants that created a spectacular pop of color for as far as the eyes can see along the 18-mile Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail. In addition to the purple ice plants, we saw a variety of other flowers there, including a grove of white calla lilies along the trail, and several other types of flowers in varying shades of pink, yellow and purple. It was love at first sight!
Located about two hours south of San Francisco, a visit to Monterey and Pacific Grove is the perfect weekend get-away or even a day trip. You will fall in love with the California coast all over again.
